2NE1's animated music video of "Hate You" has been caught in a controversy in Japan. The video is now under fire by some Japanese fans, accusing it of showing anti-Japanese sentiments.
The animated music video designed by pop graphic artist Mari Kim features a storyline where four female heroes, which are the members of 2NE1, fight against a monster to save the world from destruction.
The accusations of the video being anti-Japanese are based solely on two scenes. One is an exploding nuclear reactor that, according to Japanese, it highly resembles the Fukushima Daiichi, the nuclear power plant which was made inactive after the tragic earthquakes and tsunami in March. Secondly, the giant evil monster that has a red dot on its forehead. Accusers believe that the red dot on the white head is supposed to symbolize Japan’s flag.
With the delivered news, netizens were wildly commenting and flooded “Hate You” music video on 2NE1’s official YouTube channel. There had been some debates on both sides, however most fans were worried that as long as the Japanese continue to feel that the MV is anti-Japanese, the girls will soon be unable to continue their promotions in Japan.
2NE1 is expected to release their first Japanese single on November 16.
What are your thoughts about the video?
